Case Study

The Challenge
C3 were approached to design and create the Technical AV and automation of the new Crystal Maze Live Experience in London. The disused office-block building presented our team many unique challenges including power availability, lack of rigging points and unsafe wiring. Our team was also given only 5 months to convert the entire office block into a themed live experience over 3 levels.

The Solution

From initial concepts our project manager produced mulitple AutoCAD floorplans and renders showing the location of all components across the venue. On site our team of electricians rewired all the lighting circuits to accomodate the new room layouts and installed new circuits for the new production elements, our head of sound created bespoke soundscapes and designed the acoustic zones, our LD worked with the set designers to introduce lighting states in themed zones consistent with the original TV sets.

Using our in house automation programing specialist we created a simple user friendly show control panel integrated with Qlab to deliver consistent and smooth running of back to back shows, including feedback of the status of the show and cues along with a system trigger lighting, sound and automation of the Dome via RS-232 and js.node interfaces.

“and the sound of well-cued Crystal Maze music – it was just like being on the show.” - Metro

“What quickly became apparent was the impressive set design. I expected it to feel a bit thin, but it’s incredibly well thought out. The Aztec zone was actually warmer…” - The Guardian
